Starting a blog: notes from the field
Why a company that builds terminals, apps and electronics for public transport is starting to write, and what you will read about here.
Most of what we build is invisible. The software in the terminal at the bus door, the firmware in a device that never gets a screen, the server that turns a day of transactions into reports overnight. When it all works, it works quietly. When it doesn't, everyone notices.
This blog is where we write down what we have learned along the way. Not marketing copy, but concrete notes: what went wrong, how we fixed it and what we would do differently today.
What we will write about
- Fare collection in public transport. Contactless cards, SAM modules, working offline and everything a terminal has to survive in a vehicle that shakes for twelve hours a day.
- Mobile apps in the field. Android and Flutter on devices that are not ordinary phones: with card readers, printers and batteries that have to last a whole shift.
- Backend and fleet monitoring. How to know a device in a vehicle has a problem before the driver reports it.
- Hardware. From a prototype on the bench to a board that goes into series production, and all the mistakes in between.
- Local AI models. Where models on your own hardware make sense, and where the cloud and an API are simply the better choice.
How we will write
Short and concrete, with code and numbers where we have them. We will publish when we have something to say, not on a schedule. Posts are written in Croatian and translated into every language of this site, and you can follow along by RSS.
If there is a topic you would like us to cover, or you are working on a similar problem, write to us at info@aldo.tech.
